Ideally, as intended by Congress, parents and school districts would work together to provide a truly individualized and appropriate education for every child. Sadly, that is not always the case as school districts create special education programs that are "one size fits all" and dictate what is "appropriate" for each child.
If you feel that your child has not been properly or accurately assessed, or is not getting the appropriate education for his or her particular disability or learning deficit, and your school district is not responding to your requests for additional or different services and assessments, this office will help you to understand the law and will fight on your behalf for the best possible education for your child.
Our first priority is to inform you of your rights and the rights of your child. Our second priority is to ensure you have the appropriate educational and therapeutic assessments that are the driving force for service to your child. This part of the process will clarify your child's needs which is often the most important step to having his or her needs met by your school district. When you know your rights and exactly what you want (many clients are already here when legal representation is sought), then we can help you approach the district effectively, which can include representing you at IEPs, mediations, due process hearings and all subsequent judicial proceedings.
We have helped parents to achieve significant improvements in the supports and services provided their child by their school district, including placement in specialized non-public schools, and have been successful in obtaining attorney fee reimbursements and therapy reimbursements for most of our clients.
If you believe your child is not reaching his or her educational potential because your child is not receiving the appropriate supports and services, consider calling us to assist you in the process.
